About This Test

The Assam Direct Recruitment (ADRE) Grade IV examination is conducted by the State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC) under the Government of Assam to fill Class IV posts such as Peon, Chowkidar, Office Attendant, Mali, Sweeper, and other support-level vacancies across various state government departments. ADRE has become one of the largest recruitment processes in Assam, attracting lakhs of candidates in each cycle. Grade IV posts are open to candidates who have passed up to Class VIII (Elementary School level under SCERT) or Class X (HSLC from Board of Secondary Education, Assam), including candidates with HSLC along with ITI pass certificates in trades like Wireman, Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, and Electronics Mechanic from Government of Assam-approved institutes. Candidates with qualifications higher than HSSLC (Class XII) are not eligible for Grade IV posts. The selection process consists of a written examination followed by document verification and final merit list preparation based on the written exam score and reservation rules.

The ADRE Grade IV written examination consists of 135 multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 135 marks, to be completed within 2 hours and 30 minutes. The paper is available in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, English, and Hindi mediums. A negative marking of 0.25 marks is applied for each incorrect answer, making careful and accurate answering essential. The exam covers five subjects — English, Social Studies, Mathematics, General Knowledge, and Mental Ability and Logical Reasoning. The difficulty level of the paper is set at the Elementary School level (Class VIII) for candidates in the read-up-to-Class-VIII category and at the HSLC (Class X) level for matriculation-passed candidates. Social Studies covers topics from Assam and Indian history, geography, polity, and economy. Mathematics tests basic arithmetic including number system, fractions, percentage, profit and loss, time and work, and mensuration. General Knowledge covers current affairs, general science, sports, important dates, and Assam-specific awareness. Mental Ability and Logical Reasoning includes pattern recognition, analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, and figure-based questions. The English section tests basic grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension at the respective qualification level.
