About This Test
The Assam GT/PGT TET, officially known as the Teachers' Eligibility Test Recruitment Test (TCR), is the primary examination for recruiting Graduate Teachers (GT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) for government and provincialised secondary and higher secondary schools across Assam. Conducted by the Directorate of Secondary Education (DSE), Assam, this exam serves as a combined eligibility-selection test — candidates who qualify become eligible for appointment as permanent government teachers. The exam is divided into two papers — Paper-I for Graduate Teacher (GT) posts covering Classes IX and X, and Paper-II for Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) posts covering Classes XI and XII. The first round of TCR (TCR 1.0) was held on 19th January 2025 to fill 9,717 vacancies, including 8,230 GT posts and 1,487 PGT posts across Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Hindi, and Sanskrit mediums. Candidates require a Bachelor's degree with B.Ed for GT posts and a Master's degree with B.Ed for PGT posts in the relevant subject. With the announcement of large-scale teacher recruitment under TCR 2.0, this examination continues to be one of the most important recruitment drives in Assam for teaching aspirants.
The TCR examination is an OMR-based objective (MCQ) paper carrying a total of 140 marks, with a common structure for both Paper-I (GT) and Paper-II (PGT). As per the updated syllabus notified by the Director of Secondary Education, Assam (Notice No. E-585039/1), the 140 marks are distributed across five sections — Pedagogy (50 marks), About Assam and its People (35 marks), General English (30 marks), General Mathematics of 10th Standard (15 marks), and General Studies and Current Affairs (10 marks). Pedagogy carries the highest weightage and tests candidates on teaching methodology, child development, learning theories, classroom management, assessment and evaluation, inclusive education, and the National Education Policy. The About Assam and its People section covers Assam's history from the Ahom dynasty to post-independence, geography, rivers, national parks, wildlife, tribal communities, art and culture, Vaishnavite movement, Sattriya tradition, economy, polity, and notable personalities. General English tests grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and language skills. General Mathematics covers arithmetic and basic mathematical concepts at the Class X level including number system, algebra, geometry, mensuration, and data handling. General Studies and Current Affairs tests awareness of national and international events, Indian polity, economy, science, sports, and recent developments. The exam does not have negative marking, which encourages candidates to attempt all questions. The paper is available in both Assamese and English mediums, and the exam is conducted in two shifts on the same day — Paper-I for GT in the morning and Paper-II for PGT in the afternoon.
At AssamTest.com, we provide dedicated mock tests for both Assam GT TET (Paper-I) and PGT TET (Paper-II), designed to match the updated 140-mark exam pattern with the correct section-wise marks distribution across Pedagogy (50), About Assam and its People (35), General English (30), General Mathematics (15), and General Studies and Current Affairs (10). Our practice tests are available in both Assamese and English mediums and cover all five sections with questions prepared based on previous year TCR papers, NCERT fundamentals, and the official DSE syllabus. Special emphasis is given to the Pedagogy section that alone accounts for more than one-third of the total marks, and the About Assam and its People section that is unique to this examination and frequently decides the final merit. Each mock test provides a timed exam experience with instant results and section-wise performance tracking, helping you identify strengths and focus on areas that need improvement.
