About This Test
The Assam Police Constable (AB/UB) recruitment is conducted by the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Assam to fill Constable posts in the Armed Branch (AB) and Unarmed Branch (UB) of the Assam Police, along with related posts such as Constable Driver, Guardsmen, and Boatman. This recruitment attracts a massive number of applicants from across Assam, with thousands of vacancies announced in each cycle. The minimum educational qualification required is a Class 10 (HSLC) pass or equivalent from a recognized board. The selection process consists of multiple stages — Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Written Examination, Oral/Viva Voce, Document Verification, and Medical Examination. While the physical stages are eliminatory in nature, the Written Examination holds significant importance as it directly contributes to the final merit list that determines selection. Candidates must qualify at each stage to proceed to the next.
The Written Examination is an OMR-based objective test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 50 marks, with each correct answer earning 0.5 marks. There is no negative marking in the Constable exam, which encourages candidates to attempt every question. The exam duration is 2 hours, and the paper is available in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, and English mediums. The written test covers five subjects with equal distribution — Elementary Arithmetic (20 questions, 10 marks), General English (20 questions, 10 marks), Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability (20 questions, 10 marks), Assam History, Geography, Polity and Economy (20 questions, 10 marks), and General Knowledge and Current Affairs (20 questions, 10 marks). The difficulty level is set at the HSLC (Class 10) standard. Arithmetic covers topics like number system, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, and simplification. General English tests grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. Reasoning includes analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, and direction sense. The Assam-specific section focuses on state history, geography, agriculture, economy, art and culture, and government schemes. General Knowledge covers current affairs, Indian polity, science, sports, and important events. The PET carries 40 marks for Constable (UB) and 60 marks for Constable (AB) Male due to an additional chin-up event, and candidates can also earn up to 10 bonus marks for NCC, sports, computer, and diploma certifications.
