About This Test
The Assam Police Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment is conducted by the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Assam to fill Sub Inspector posts in both the Unarmed Branch (UB) and Armed Branch (AB) of the Assam Police. The SI post is one of the most prestigious and sought-after positions in the state police force, attracting thousands of graduate-level candidates in every recruitment cycle. The minimum educational qualification required is a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university, and candidates must be between 20 and 24 years of age (with relaxation for reserved categories). The selection process consists of multiple stages — Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Written Examination, Oral/Viva Voce, Document Verification, and Medical Examination. Unlike the Constable recruitment where the written exam comes after the physical stages, for the SI post too, only candidates who qualify the physical tests proceed to the written examination, making every stage critical for final selection.
The Written Examination is an OMR-based objective test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 100 marks, with each correct answer earning 1 mark. A negative marking of 0.5 marks is applied for each wrong answer, making accuracy as important as speed. The exam duration is 3 hours, and the paper is available in English, Assamese, Bodo, and Bengali mediums. The difficulty level of the paper is set at the Graduation standard. The written test covers three broad areas — Logical Reasoning, Aptitude and Comprehension (35 marks), which tests analytical skills through topics like analogy, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, puzzles, series, Venn diagrams, number system, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance, data interpretation, and reading comprehension; Basic General Knowledge (30 marks), covering Indian history, geography, polity, economy, general science, current affairs, sports, and important events; and Culture and History of India and Assam (35 marks), focusing on Assam's history from the Ahom dynasty to post-independence, Assamese art and culture, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, major rivers, important personalities of Assam, and the cultural heritage of India. The PET carries 40 marks for both SI (UB) and SI (AB) covering events like race and long jump, and the Viva Voce carries 5 marks. Candidates can also earn up to 10 bonus marks for NCC, sports, computer proficiency, and diploma certifications.
