About This Test
The Gauhati High Court Judicial Assistant recruitment is conducted by the Gauhati High Court to fill ministerial posts within the court establishment. The Judicial Assistant post is a Grade III level clerical posts that involves handling court records, documentation, filing, data entry, and other administrative functions essential to the judicial process. This is one of the most sought-after court recruitment exams in the northeastern region, attracting a large number of graduate-level candidates from Assam and the other states under the Gauhati High Court's jurisdiction — Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh. The selection process consists of two stages — a Written Examination (Stage I) and a subsequent stage that may include a skill test, typing test, or viva voce depending on the specific recruitment notification. Only candidates who qualify the written examination proceed to the next stage, making the Stage I performance the deciding factor for shortlisting.
The Written Examination carries a total of 120 marks and is conducted in objective-type multiple-choice format on OMR sheets with a duration of 2 hours. The paper tests candidates across four areas — English Language, General Knowledge, General Aptitude and Reasoning, and Assamese Language (20 marks). The English Language section tests proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, and other language skills at a level appropriate for graduate candidates. The General Knowledge section covers current affairs, Indian and Assam-specific general awareness, history, geography, polity, economy, general science, sports, and important events. The General Aptitude and Reasoning section assesses analytical and logical thinking through topics such as analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, direction sense, blood relations, and basic numerical aptitude. The Assamese Language Proficiency segment carries 20 marks and is qualifying in nature — candidates must secure at least 40% marks (8 out of 20) in this section to be treated as qualified for the next stage. The marks obtained in the Assamese language segment are not taken into account while preparing the merit list, meaning the remaining 100 marks from English, General Knowledge, and General Aptitude and Reasoning determine a candidate's final ranking. There is negative marking in the written examination, with 0.25 marks (one-fourth of the marks allotted to the question) deducted for every incorrect answer.
