About This Test

The SSC MTS examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff and Havaldar (CBIC and CBN) for various ministries, departments, and offices of the Government of India. This is one of the most accessible central government recruitment exams, as the minimum educational qualification required is a Class 10 (Matriculation) pass from a recognized board. Every year, thousands of vacancies are announced under SSC MTS, attracting lakhs of candidates from across the country. The selection process consists of a Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) applicable only for candidates applying for the Havaldar post. The CBT is the deciding stage for MTS posts, making thorough preparation of the written examination essential for securing a position.

The SSC MTS CBT is conducted in two mandatory sessions on the same day, and candidates must attempt both sessions to remain eligible. Session I consists of 40 questions carrying 120 marks with a duration of 45 minutes, covering Numerical and Mathematical Ability (20 questions, 60 marks) and Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving (20 questions, 60 marks). Session II consists of 50 questions carrying 150 marks with a duration of 45 minutes, covering General Awareness (25 questions, 75 marks) and English Language and Comprehension (25 questions, 75 marks). There is no negative marking in Session I, while 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer in Session II. The total paper carries 90 questions for 270 marks across both sessions. Session II is evaluated only if the candidate qualifies Session I. The difficulty level of the entire paper is set at the Matriculation (Class 10) standard, and the CBT is available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages including Assamese. Reasoning covers topics like analogy, classification, coding-decoding, series, direction sense, and non-verbal reasoning. Mathematics includes number system, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, and basic geometry. General Awareness tests current affairs, Indian history, geography, polity, and general science. The English section covers grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and sentence structure.
