About This Test Series
The Assam GT/PGT TET, officially known as the Teachers' Eligibility Test Recruitment Test (TCR), is one of the most important teacher recruitment examinations in Assam. Conducted by the Directorate of Secondary Education (DSE), Assam, this examination serves as the gateway for aspiring teachers to secure permanent government teaching posts in provincialised and government secondary and higher secondary schools across the state. The exam is divided into two papers — Paper-I for Graduate Teacher (GT) posts covering Classes IX and X, and Paper-II for Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) posts covering Classes XI and XII. The first round of TCR (TCR 1.0) was held on 19th January 2025 to fill 9,717 vacancies, including 8,230 GT posts and 1,487 PGT posts across multiple mediums such as Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Hindi, and Sanskrit. With the announcement of large-scale teacher recruitment under TCR 2.0, this examination continues to attract thousands of teaching aspirants from every corner of Assam.
Both the GT and PGT papers follow an OMR-based objective (MCQ) exam format with a total of 140 marks. The common sections for both papers include Pedagogy (50 marks), About Assam and its People (35 marks), General English (30 marks), General Mathematics (15 marks), and General Studies and Current Affairs (10 marks). While the general structure remains similar for both papers, PGT-level questions carry a higher conceptual depth suited to higher secondary teaching requirements. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree with B.Ed for GT posts and a Master's degree with B.Ed for PGT posts in the relevant subject. The exam does not have negative marking, which encourages candidates to attempt all questions. Notifications, admit cards, and results are published through the DSE Assam official website at madhyamik.assam.gov.in, and candidates must also hold a valid Employment Exchange Registration Number to be eligible for appointment.
